Moose Mama & Moose Babies Crossin’ The Kenai River

Courtesy of our guest Ram S. of Georgia, visiting Alaska for the first time with his wonderful wife & kids, this video of a cow moose with twin calves crossing the Kenai River in front of Kenai Riverfront Resort is a beautiful sample of the nature that surrounds us everyday here on the Kenai River in Soldotna, Alaska!

Winter Bird

Our local Grouse population seems to be wintering well! We’ve encountered this male Spruce Grouse and his mate several times along the same forested ridgeline on one of our ski trails…might have to name the spot “Grouse Ridge”!

Snow Fun!

It’s been a great snowy winter here on the Kenai River, the best in several years for sure!  From tow-boarding, to nordic skiing, to snowshoeing and ice skating, we’ve enjoyed it all. Summer is a few short months away, daylight is already ahead of the lower 48 and we’re about to enter the spring zone with breakup on the horizon. But for now we’ll linger in the snowbanks a little longer…

Winter Sunshine & Sunsets!

Back to 8 hours of daylight and lots of sunshine! The mountains are out in full glory and beautiful sunsets are the norm once again.

Nordic Ski Success!

Congrats to TJ & CJ for ski success in a blizzard, taking home a 1st place individual finish as well as a 1st place team win among the 5 Kenai Peninsula high schools today! It was snowing like crazy, making it even more of a challenge for all the kids.

Peeping Moose!

A Mama Moose and her Twins have been hanging out in the yard…here are a few shots we took, including one of the twins inches from the window peeping on us through the sliding glass door on the deck!

These adorable moose baby twins were born just across the street this week!
