I’m claiming that title, effective 8:33 pm on June 6th….after landing this beautiful 35″ Kenai River King Salmon, the first of 2017 off our floating dock. Yes, I said dock, not boat which I know is the most practical way to catch a big Kenai River King, but alas I like a challenge, and a challenge it was indeed! This feisty King hen just about spooled me more than once as she danced in a cartwheel on the water, ran down stream past our neighbors and almost prevailed in her tug-o-war! My dear wife and awesome fishing buddies were there to encourage, coach and eventually cheer as CJ put this one in the net with one beautiful swoop head first. The key was patiently coaxing her to swim close to shore and back up river toward the dock. Once in the net, with our 36″ and under rule, we had to carefully measure, but luck was on our side and confirmed after several double checks to be sure. King Salmon fillets, with our special technique, will be enjoyed at tomorrow’s dinner for certain! Feast your eyes below…
