The Kenai River is host to four species of spawning Pacific Salmon with 7 distinct runs:  Chinook (King), Sockeye (Red), Coho (Silver), and Pink (Humpy). Native Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden (Char family) also abound. Seasons and run timing varies throughout this 80 mile river system flowing from the headwaters of Kenai Lake in Cooper Landing to Cook Inlet in the town of Kenai.  Please always check the current year fishing regulations for specific guidance on openings, emergency closures, and regulation changes year to year. This Kenai River Salmon Run Timing Calendar is simply a visual tool to give you a rough idea of the timing of each run as well as the opening date for Rainbow Trout in the Kenai River.
